At Folksworth Church of England Primary School we recognise how digital technologies have become integrated into every aspect of our pupil’s lives. With this in mind, we aim for all pupils to become digitally literate and competent end-users of technology, able to choose the best tool to fulfil the task or challenge and to safely access an ever expanding digital world.
We follow Kapow Primary’s Computing scheme of work to inspire pupils to become curious and explorative thinkers with a diverse knowledge of the world – in other words, to think like computing experts. The intention is for pupils to develop the confidence to question and observe places, measure and record necessary data in a variety of ways and analyse and present their findings.
Wee build an awareness of how Computing shapes lives at multiple scales and over time. The hope is to encourage pupils to become resourceful, active citizens who will have the skills to contribute to and improve the world around them.
We aim to make digital technologies accessible to all pupils, regardless of background, and to access the benefits of technology as a tool to support those with additional needs.
It is important for our pupils to become good digital citizens recognising that, through technology, they can become part of a global community. We model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively and safely.
Online Safety
At Folksworth, we understand that children need to be equipped with the knowledge, skills and understanding to live and thrive in an increasingly online world. We embrace the use of digital technology in our school for a range of purposes and use the resources available online to enhance our teaching across the curriculum and expand pupils’ horizons. We model openness to technology and encourage our pupils to develop their skills in using it.
The safety of our pupils is paramount and we regularly teach online safety using the strands of the Education for a Connected World document. Through this children develop a thorough understanding of what online resources are available to them and how to use them safely. We want our children to be confident in using appropriate online resources for their current and future needs but also highly resilient and aware of the risks involved and how to approach these. Children are taught to think critically about how they behave online and the potential impact of an online presence. They are encouraged to analyse risk and make decisions to keep themselves and others safe, and where to seek help if necessary.

Through our online safety teaching we aim to educate our pupils about the benefits and risks to being online so that they can use it effectively in their future lives.
