Starting school

Starting school can be a difficult time for a child, parents and the school. We all need to work together to make this transition smooth and rewarding. The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is grounded in active learning. Through practical activities, purposeful play and talk, pupils develop an understanding of the world and the basic concepts they will need for later learning. Parents can play a major role in fostering attitudes to learning and developing good language skills and good behaviour.

The Early Years Foundation Stage develops children’s personal, social and emotional well-being; promotes positive attitudes and disposition towards their learning; provides opportunities to develop social skills, attention skills and persistence; as well as developing skills in language and communication, reading and writing, mathematics, knowledge and understanding of the world, and physical development. Our policy for the Early Years Foundation Stage is available for you to read on request.
